THROUGH A RAPIST'S EYE

Forwarded by Jim Paredes of Ateneo69.

Jim Paredes wrote: Katipunan , QC incident

Dear friends,

Many of you may not have heard of the incident that happened to a friend of my son last week at about 6:30 pm right in front of the thickly-populated area of BPI-Katipunan, near shoppersville. she parked her car right in front of BPI to make a withdrawal and to do some groceries. As she was getting into her car after doing her chores, a man suddenly appeared beside her and tried to bully her into moving to the passenger seat. when she pressed her car horn to call attention, he pushed her in the car and pinned her down with his elbow on her neck. it was a good thing that she had the presence of mind to continue to struggle and press on her car horn to catch attention(even if she had to use her foot to do this) Her assailant even tried to make people believe that it was a domestic matter by telling the crowd not to get involved as it was a "private matter". But with the onlookers multiplying by the second, her assailant finally gave up and ran. that was when she stood up and shouted for help. Thank God the guy got caught and is now under police custody.
Last saturday, during the inquest, she told me that what gave her the guts to fight her assailant was the article "THROUGH A RAPIST'S EYES" forwarded to our e-groups! about a week prior to her attack. I am re-forwarding the article (you can find it at the bottom of this (e-mail) for everyone's benefit. please tell your friends, family, and loved ones about this. It works. may i just add that to a certain extent, we have to get ourselves involved if we see violence being committed on anyone like calling on a security guard or a police officer even if it appears to be a domestic matter. It seems that a lot of attackers use that tactic to get away with violence. Not many people know how to take care of themselves when faced with such a situation. Everyone, please be very, very careful.

THOUGHT THIS WAS GOOD INFO TO SHARE..FYI -

Through a rapist's eyes!
A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who's clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for! them to realize that going after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon.

So, the idea is to convince these guys you're not worth it.POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:=20
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can't believe it is so cold out here, we're in for a bad winter. Now that you've seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they'd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can't beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh - HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy's parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you'd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ....I know you are smart enough to know these pointers but there will be some, where you will go "hmm I must remember that" After reading, share it to someone you care about, never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) . b. If you! u are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.c. Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Please share this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle.

Paper on the back window of your car

WARNING FROM POLICE BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating. ..

You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away.. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Commuters from Alabang

Warning to commuters

Dear All, Pls. share this to all SW Personnel who commutes daily.

(Mag-ingat Tayo sa mga Puñetang Tao) Last night at about 10:15 - to 10:30 PM , I was in a jeepney bound home traversing Alabang-Zapote Road .

I was treatened. Mag-isa lang ako They interrogate me but I did not answer them.

I was advised by the physician na sa Crime Lab or Toxicology ako magpatingin to know what was the drug injected to me. What he can do raw ay i admit ako at observe kung ano ang reaction ng drug na na inject sa akin. DI ako nagpa admit. I was given anti tetanus shot baka kase saan saan lang napulot ang needle at kani kanino na yun naitusok.

Lastly, I learned sa isang by-stander na may previous incident din nung madaling araw na yun sa Alabang, wherein a lady lost P10,000 pesos daw after feeling drowsy and weak pagbaba ng jeep dahil din sa may nag inject bigla sa braso nya.

LESSON LEARNED: MAG-INGAT. WAG MATUTULOG SA JEEP O BUS. MAGING ALERT SA MGA PASAHERO. WAG MAGDALA NG MALAKING CASH. DAHIL SA PANAHON NGAYON, MARAMING MODUS OPERANDI ANG MGA CRIMINAL.

Colored Straws

BEWARE!!!

CAUTION:Dangerous secret in the colored straws

Posted Feb 16, 2008 by Hannie

Horrible story of mine goes back to year 2005 March.
I ordered a Club Sandwich and a Sprite in a restaurant somewhere in Manila
When I finished half of the sandwich I sipped a sprite.
But it didn¡¯t taste like an ordinary sprite I used to drink.
So I sipped once more, but it still tasted the same.
It tasted like a sprite mixed with some kind of oil.
I called the clerk and asked him if the sprite was expired.
He said it was just delivered today. So I asked him to taste it.
Then he also found that something was wrong with it.
Both of us were wondering for a while.
Then I got to look inside the straw.
There were a lot of tiny black round things that looked like eggs.
So I cut the middle of the straw lengthwise to have a better look.

Yuck.

There were a lot of tiny black round things in it.
I suppose they were eggs of cockroach. About 1000 eggs were there.
Then I began to check all the other straws in the straws case one by one.
Almost all of them contained black eggs that seemed to be either the
cockroach eggs or excretions.

After the incident I began to check all the straws in the restaurants and
fast food chains that I had gone to.

Almost of all the straws contained the same black eggs.
Especially the darker the colors of straws, the more black eggs were found.
In black straws, extreme amount of black eggs were found.
It was found out that it¡¯s because the cockroaches live (hatch eggs andexcrete) in the dark places.

Stores Straws Amount of germs and cockroach excretion/eggs found
Jolli*** RED straws 88.89%
Chowk*** RED straws Almost the same as above
Local Restaurants BLACK straws 225% above

McD****** WHITE straws 0.5%
Starbu*** Straws covered 0% with white wrappers

* 80% or more restaurants in the malls use red or black colored straws

Modus Operandi

Dear Family and Friends,

This happened to me early this afternoon at Makati SM. Because I wasn't aware of this new modus operandi, only by the grace of God I did not become another victim!

I was walking along the ground floor between the supermarket and the department store when walking toward me was a rather neat-looking middle aged man, all smiles. When he was in front of me he reached out to shake my hand and at the same time he kissed me on both cheeks!

(YAK!) He was carrying a black Missal and a Bible. Taken by surprise and trying to recall who he was (I thought he surely must be a friend I hadn't seen for a w hile and had now forgotten. I was embarrassed to ask his name!) He started talking almost without a pause saying he had just came from the Greenbelt Chapel where he had served at their noon Mass. He told me he was now a "full time lay Minister".

Then he told me "Si Papa may stage 4 cancer" and he wasn't expected to last through this night; that right now Monsignor Bacani was sitting with him by his hospital bed and tonight they were planning to take him to the Archbishop's Palace for the wake. (I thought - but he isn't dead yet!) But they needed money to pay for his final morphine shot and dextrose as he was in much pain. Could I please lend him P5,000? All this time he was holding my right hand. I said I didn't have any money on me. He then asked for even a few hundreds just to help. Now finally becoming aware of his intention, I again said I didn't have money at all. He finally let go of my hand.

My two rings were still on my fingers. They were a bit tight to put on and to remove.
While this man was talking and looking at me, my eyes were wondering as I am wont to do when I am trying to remember something - a habit. I sort of try to push my eyes up into my brains to help me remember. Later while waiting at the Meralco "Senior Citizens" room I chatted up an elderly lady seated beside me and recounted my experience. She was surprised that I wasn't aware of this latest scam. Usually the man will stare into his victim's eyes and manage to hypnotize her to empty her wallet for him. Other instances he makes the hypnotized victim walk to an ATM and withdraw money to hand over to him.

Her aunt had been victimized by what appears to be the same man from our matching descriptions. He is between 40 and 50 years old, about 5'8" to 5'10", neat looking, kayumanggi, carrying a Missal and Bible. He always kisses his victims so people around would not suspect a crime was in progress. If you are approached (and kissed) please do not look into this man's eyes when he is telling his story. It's only my bad habit of "rolling my eyes" when I am in deep thought that saved me.

Please inform family and friends so this modus operandi will come to an end!
Thank You.

Birth Control

Good to know...An article from somebody:

PASS THIS ON EVEN IF YOU DO NOT USE IT
Recently this past week, my cousin Nicole Dishuk (age 31...newly graduated student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a Doctor...) was flown into a nearby hospital, because she passed out.
They found a blood clot in her neck, and immediately took her by helicopter to the ER to operate. by the time they removed the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain, the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage.
Since last Wednesday night, she was battling.. they induced her into a coma to stop the blood flow, They operated 3 times.. Finally, they said there was nothing left that they could do.. they found multiple clots in the left side of her brain.. the swelling wouldn't stop, and she was on life support..She died at 4:30 yesterday. She leaves behind a husband, and a 2yr old Brandon and a 4yr old Justin..
The CAUSE of DEATH - they found was a birth control she was taking that allows you to only have your period 3 times a year... They said it interrupts life's menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved... shouldn't be - So to the women in my address book - I ask you to boycott this product & deal with your period once a month - so you can live the rest of the months that your life has in store for you.

*Please share this to every woman you know - you may save someone's life... Remember, you have a CYCL E for a reason!

Fyi.The name of this new birth control pill is Lybrel. If you go to Lybrel.com <http://lybrel.com/> <http://lybrel/>.com/ , you will find at least 26 pages of information regarding this drug. The second birth control pill is, Seasonique. If you go to the website of, Seasonique.com <http://seasonique.com/> <http://seasonique/>.com/ , you will find 43 pages of information regarding this drug. The warnings and side effects regarding both pills are horrible.

Please, please share this information to as many daughters AND sons, co-workers, friends and relatives. Several lives have already been changed.

Noodles

SA MGA MAHILIG KUMAIN NG PANSIT, PASTA O ANUMANG NOODLES, KONTI LANG SA GABI BAKA HINDI NA KAYO MAGISING.

It seems only MALES are afflicted with this.
We had a co-staff/driver from FAO who died last month from
supposedly BANGUNGOT-- leaving a housewife and 3 very young kids.

IMPORTANT: Never go thirsty when going to bed and be
sure you have plenty of water during your 8-hour rest.
Bangungot has killed a male nurse of UERMMH. It is sudden death in adults
which cause them to die while sleeping. Many theories have
been put forward as its cause. However, here is an article which
sheds some
light to the cause of this malady. Please read on:

Article from THE PHILIPPINE STAR:
The reported cause of actor Rico Yan's death is nightmare or
bangungot. Medical investigators in China , Japan and several Asian
countries who performed autopsies on persons who died from "acute
hemorrhagic pancreatitis" found out that the majority of them had
eaten NOODLES as their supper. This was a startling finding.

However, it wasn't the noodles that caused nightmares but
DEHYDRATION. Imbibing even with a few drinks of alcohol or just
eating noodles immediately before bedtime compound this on an empty
stomach will trigger an electrolyte imbalance and other factors that
causes a person to dehydrate or lose water.

It is therefore advisable for a person to take several glasses of
water before bedtime if he had a few or several alcoholic drinks.
Avoid eating noodles before bedtime, but if you can not avoid it,
all ow at least two hours for the body to digest the noodles before
hitting the sack and drink plenty of water.

The most important thing is, never go thirsty when going to bed and
be sure you have plenty of water during your 8-hour rest.________________________________________________________________

Dining Out

For all of you who frequent restaurants and understand
the need for the service to be faster, this short
story is a timeless lesson on how consultants can make
a difference to an organization.

Last week, we took some friends out to a new
restaurant and noticed that the waiter who took our
order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket.

It seemed a little strange. When another waiter
brought our water and utensils, I noticed he also had
a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and
saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets.

When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked,
"Why the spoon?"

Well, he explained, "the restaurant's owners hired
Andersen Consulting to revamp all our processes. After
several months of analysis, they concluded that the
spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil.

It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3
spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are better
prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to
the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift."

As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was
able to replace it with his spare. "I'll get another
spoon next time I go to the kitchen, instead of making
an extra trip to get it right now."

I was impressed. I also noticed that there was a
string hanging out of the waiter's fly. Looking
around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same
string hanging from their flies. So before he walked
off, I asked the waiter "Excuse me, but can you tell
me why you have that string right there?"

"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not
everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I
mentioned also found out that we can save time in the
restroom. by tying this string to the tip of you know
what, we can pull it out without touching it and
eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the
time spent in the restroom by 76.39 percent.

I asked, "After you get it out, how do you put it
back?"

"Well," he whispered, "I don't know about the others,
but I use the spoon."

The Dirty Dozen Chemicals in Cosmetics

Green Guide 122 October/November 2007 Smart Shopper's Card
by Catherine Zandonella, M.P.H
Filed under: Cosmetics, Personal care products, Fragrances, Skin Care

Beauty is only skin deep, but the products we use to attain it contain chemicals that may penetrate far deeper. The average adult uses nine personal care products a day, with roughly 120 chemicals spread among them, many of which are incompletely tested for toxicity.
Below we've listed 12 chemicals that are best avoided. A single exposure to any of them is unlikely to cause harm, but daily exposure over a lifetime may add up. When shopping, be prepared to spend some time reading labels; even brands that advertise themselves as "natural" or "botanical" have been known to include some of these (see our Smart Shopper's Dirty Dozen Ingredients card).

1. Antibacterials
Overuse of antibacterials can prevent them from effectively fighting disease-causing germs like E. coli and Salmonella enterica. Triclosan, widely used in soaps, toothpastes and deodorants, has been detected in breast milk, and one recent study found that it interferes with testosterone activity in cells. Numerous studies have found that washing with regular soap and warm water is just as effective at killing germs.

2. Coal Tar
Coal tar is a known human carcinogen used as an active ingredient in dandruff shampoos and anti-itch creams. Coal-tar-based dyes such as FD&C Blue 1, used in toothpastes, and FD&C Green 3, used in mouthwash, have been found to be carcinogenic in animal studies when injected under skin.

3. Diethanolamine (DEA)
DEA is a possible hormone disruptor, has shown limited evidence of carcinogenicity and depletes the body of choline needed for fetal brain development. DEA can also show up as a contaminant in products containing related chemicals, such as cocamide DEA.

4. 1,4-Dioxane
1,4-Dioxane is a known animal carcinogen and a possible human carcinogen that can appear as a contaminant in products containing sodium laureth sulfate and ingredients that include the terms "PEG," "-xynol," "ceteareth," "oleth" and most other ethoxylated "eth" ingredients. The FDA monitors products for the contaminant but has not yet recommended an exposure limit. Manufacturers can remove dioxane through a process called vacuum stripping, but a small amount usually remains. A 2007 survey by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that most children's bath products contain 10 parts per million or less, but an earlier 2001 survey by the FDA found levels in excess of 85 parts per million.

5. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde has a long list of adverse health effects, including immune-system toxicity, respiratory irritation and cancer in humans. Yet it still turns up in baby bath soap, nail polish, eyelash adhesive and hair dyes as a contaminant or break-down product of diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea and quaternium compounds.

6. Fragrance
The catchall term "fragrance" may mask phthalates, which act as endocrine disruptors and may cause obesity and reproductive and developmental harm. Avoid phthalates by selecting essential-oil fragrances instead.

7. Lead and Mercury
Neurotoxic lead may appear in products as a naturally occurring contaminant of hydrated silica, one of the ingredients in toothpaste, and lead acetate is found in some brands of men's hair dye. Brain-damaging mercury, found in the preservative thimerosol, is used in some mascaras.

8. Nanoparticles
Tiny nanoparticles, which may penetrate the skin and damage brain cells, are appearing in an increasing number of cosmetics and sunscreens. Most problematic are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles, used in sunscreens to make them transparent. When possible, look for sunscreens containing particles of these ingredients larger than 100 nanometers. You'll most likely need to call companies to confirm sizes, but a few manufacturers have started advertising their lack of nanoparticle-sized ingredients on labels. For a more complete discussion, see Screen Test: Reading the Micro-Fine Print.

9. Parabens(methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, butyl-, isobutyl-)
Parabens, which have weak estrogenic effects, are common preservatives that appear in a wide array of toiletries. A study found that butyl paraben damaged sperm formation in the testes of mice, and a relative, sodium methylparaben, is banned in cosmetics by the E.U. Parabens break down in the body into p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which has estrogenic activity in human breast-cancer cell cultures.

10. Petroleum Distillates
Possible human carcinogens, petroleum distillates are prohibited or restricted for use in cosmetics in the E.U. but are found in several U.S. brands of mascara, foot-odor powder and other products. Look out for the terms "petroleum" or "liquid paraffin."

11. P-Phenylenediamine
Commonly found in hair dyes, this chemical can damage the nervous system, cause lung irritation and cause severe allergic reactions. It's also listed as 1,4-Benzenediamine; p-Phenyldiamine and 4-Phenylenediamine.

12. Hydroquinone
Found in skin lighteners and facial moisturizers, hydroquinone is neurotoxic and allergenic, and there's limited evidence that it may cause cancer in lab animals. It may also appear as an impurity not listed on ingredients labels.

South SUper Highway

For the general commuting public, maging driver ka man o hindi...

Ingat kayo when passing through south super highway
cor quirino ave. On our way home from Makati , we
took buendia then turn right to south superhighway,
it was only 8pm and it was drizzling. we were
cruising fine but it was a slow moving traffic.
right after san andres st, there are these buildings
which are modern version of home along the riles
(near the designers depot), my wife screamed because
somebody was trying to open the car from her side.
sensing that it was locked he moved to the back door
and tried to open it likewise, we were stocked in
traffic and i was stunned that i could not think of
anything to do but just look at him. so when finally
the traffic moved he also moved away casually
tucking the gun in his belly and staring at me as if
saying you are lucky you locked your door. thank GOD
my wife is so makulit in reminding me to lock the
door evertime we go. kaya to all you people beware
of that place. Actually you should be alert & be
cautious when passing
through south superhighway all the way to nagtahan.

Karla Vanessa M. Redor

Three days ago my driver had an encounter in this
area. After dropping me off at work, the driver was
on the south bound lane of South Super Highway near
the home along the riles housing (near Sunday
Machine Works and Designer Depot). As he came to a
full stop at the San Andres intersection stoplight,
a man approached the car's rear passenger side,
grabbed the car's antenna and broke it. The man
remained beside the car, apparently waiting for the
driver to get down and confront him. Fortunately,
the driver remembered my dad's warnings regarding
these types of M.O.s and remained in the car. As the
driver sped away, he noticed a group of men on the
center island. It pays to be praning,

Sara

Yes, I have witnessed a similar incident, maybe a
bout a month ago, and reported it immediately to
Police 117. A young man tried to open the passenger
door of the taxi in front of me. About three or four
girls were inside the taxi at that time.
Fortunately, the door was locked. I pass this route
coming from Malacanang every night. Fortunately for
me too, my car is heavily tinted so I am not easy
prey. I shall call 117 again. I suggest you do the
same. Although I don't know if that would really
help.

Atty. Dara C. Acusar Assistant Secre tary
Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel

A similar incident happened to me along Quirino
Avenue somewhere between the Flying V gas station
and Iglesia ni Kristo. 3 men approached my car IN
BROAD DAYLIGHT! and SLOW TRAFFIC! and tried to open
the back doors. Bumusina ako ng tuloy tuloy to ward
them off. It's scary 'coz that area has no
patrolling policemen. When they failed to open my
car, they tried the other cars naman. I don't know
kung may nabuksan sila. Then yesterday, while the
PMAP rally was going on along Buendia cor. Ayala, as
I was about to cross that intersection, two of the
rallyists tried to open my car doors again. Again in
BROAD DAYLIGHT! WITH A POLICEMAN AROUND! Hay, what
the world has come to. I suggest you lock up and
make a lot of noise to at least rattle those thieves.

mga tsong this really happend last wednesday,
September sept. 10... and i hope u would take time
in reading this... I came from makati and was
driving along south super highway (osmena hiway)
going towards manila area, nung dumating ako sa
maliit na bridge before the DESIGNER DEPOT, ung
maliit na bazaar of clothes (corner quirino ave and
osmena highway) , if ur coming from makati and u
took buendia or pablo ocampo, mauuna ung bridge
before DESIGNER DEPOT ung nasa harap ko is a gold
honda civic, all of a sudden may mga lumabas na
around 6 or 7 guys who obviously look like squatters
who reside along the riles and biglang tinambangan
ung civic, pinagsisipa, pinagyug-yug, pinagkukutkot
ung susian and they were successful in opening the
doors, tapos nagulat na lang ako isa isa nilang
nilabas ung mga gamit na nasa loob nung civic cds,
bags, etc. im not sure kung ung driver is a girl or
a boy , pero ung driver tinutukan ng kutsilyo... in
short parang kinuyob ung civic, btw, ako
and ung civic during that time (mga 8:30 - 9:00 pm )
ay nasa right most ng lane... meaning right side
lang namin ung lakaran ng tao... after robbing...
they immediately jump off the bridge and went
away... dami nakakita nun pero isang taxi driver
lang ang tumigil to check ung condition ng driver...
nga pala, may owner-type jeep na nasa harap ng
katabi ng civic, sakay ay mga pulis, 2 lang ata
yun... naka purple na uniform (manila police)... i
dont know kung nakita nila yung incident na yun...
pero sa tingin ko naman makikita nila yun... natakot
lang dahil 2 lang sila eh and their rusty pistols...
just a friendly warning mga tsong... kung mag-isa
kayo and mejo kita kayo sa loob ng kotse nyo (kahit
ano pa yang kotse nyo, luma or bago) try to avoid
muna if possible ung osmena highway at night or
better yet try to have another route kasi mejo
nagpaparamdam na naman ung mga modus operandi na
tulad nun dahil pasko na ulet. if any of u guys have
contact sa manila police, paki
inform naman sila or just spread this news.... its
for all us naman eh... peace!

Always better safe than sorry... forewarned is
din kayo tatawid dun dahil puro rugby boys and girls
ang nakaupo run! ang masakit, walang ginagawa yung
police detachment diyan! sana makatulong ng konti

Thieves in Serendra and Bonifacio High Street

by super@perez.ph
25 Aug 2007

About ten minutes to midnight last night, Aug 25, my friend and i were walking back to my car near Serendra. Apparently, Serendra closes the street lights near closing time so the street became dark. As we were walking past the lit area, a motorcycle that was waiting in the shadows moved towards us and snatched my friend's bag. I gave chase but i couldnt catch them on foot. They also seem to have covered the small license plate at the back of their motorcycle. There were two guys on the bike. The guyon the back was the snatcher. The security guard jumped into a taxi and also gave chase but they were too late. I saw the bike turn into C5.

At the police station, we were informed that my friend was the second victim in that area. Same time. Apparently, the thieves know when the lights go off and they start to wait there. Having had a previous incident in that part should have made serendra keep the lights on instead of saving money for electricity.

Funny thing was that the fort bonifacio guards started to block off the exits from the area 10 minutes after the thieves already got away. They just delayed a dozen bikers for no real reason. I really wish they listenedto bayani and had those license plate stickered on the helmets.

A few days ago, my parents' friend, Mrs. Son..., had her bag stolen from where she was sitting in a Bonifacio high street restaurant.

Everyone, please be careful. It seems that the fort's new places are the new hunting grounds for thieves. I would suggest that you steer clear awayfrom them for a while until Serendra fixes their security. I hope that they lose money for scrimping on lights.

Lighted candle in an a/c room

Dear Friends,

NEVER LIGHT A CANDLE IN AN A/C ROOM

A friend in our group passed away last week due to carbon-monoxide poisoning. It happened when she lighted an aroma therapeutic candle for the night in a room with air-conditioner ON.

Due to lack of oxygen in the room, the burning of the candle cannot fully oxidize & thus forms dangerous carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide will prevent oxygen exchange in the lungs, resulting in the person dozing off to a state of unconsciousness & eventually death in less than an hour, depending on the room size.

Please be aware of such danger when lighting aroma therapeutic candles in any unventilated room.

Hotel Magnetic Card

Just in case you don't know it yet

Ever wonder what is on your magnetic key card?

Answer: a. Customer's name b. Customer's partial home address c.
Hotel room number d. Check-in date and out dates e. Customer's credit
card number and expiration date!

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information is
there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the
hotel scanner. An employee can take a hand full of cards home and
using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop
computer and go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until
an employee re-issues the card to the next hotel guest. At that time,
the new guest's information is electronically "overwritten"
on the card and the previous guest's information is erased in the
overwriting process. But until the card is rewritten for the next
guest, it usually is kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR
INFORMATION ON IT!

The bottom line is:

Keep the cards, take them home with you, or destroy them. NEVER
leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn
them in to the front desk when you check out of a room. They will not
charge you for the card (it's illegal) and you'll be sure you are not
leaving a lot of valuable personal information on it that could be
easily lifted off with any simple scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you
still have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it in an airport
trash basket. Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up,
especially through the electronic information strip!

Information courtesy of: Pasadena Police Department

** I personally have a small magnet and pass it across the magnetic
strip several times. Then try it in the door, it will not work. It
erases everything on the card.

Be careful how you list names on your cell phone!

This lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card, purse...etc.... was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her Husband, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says "I've Just received your text asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago."

When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand phone to text "hubby" in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.

Moral of the lesson: Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Dad, Mom etc....... And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked thru texts, CONFIRM by calling back.
Also, when you're being text by friends or family to meet them somewhere , be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet "family and friends" who text you.

ICE - In Case of Emergency

Very Important to Note - about ICE ......................

Isn't it true that we all carry our mobile phones with hundreds ofnames/numbers stored in its memory but yet nobody, other than ourselves, know which of these numbers belong to our near and dear ones?
Let us for a moment create a scenario wherein (God forbid):

we are involved in an accident or had a heart attack and the peopleattending us get hold of our mobile phone but don't' know which number to call to inform our family members. Yes, there are hundreds of numbersstored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?

For this reason, we must have one or more telephone numbers stored under the name ICE (In case of Emergency) in our mobile phones.

" ICE" Campaign
Recently, the concept of "ICE" is catching up quickly. It is simple, animportant method of contact during emergency situations.

As cell phones are carried by majority of the population, all you need todo is store the number of a contact person or person who should becontacted at during emergency as "ICE" (meaning In Case of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to thescenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, butthey didn't know which number to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose.

Following a disaster in London , the East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number stored as "ICE".

It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.
A great idea that will make a difference!
Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our mobile phones today!
